The original BiFi (derivative of the English word beefy, meaty) version is a thin jerky-like salami. The sausage, which is eaten cold, is wrapped in aluminum and to prevent moisture loss is again packaged inside in a thin plastic film. When consuming the sausage, the thin plastic fim must be stripped. Variations include a Bifi salami wrapped in a white or wheat roll (BiFi Roll) and a roll filled with salami, cheese, and pizza sauce (BiFi Carazza). Larger versions of these products, are distinguished by the ending "XXL".

In Between Savory Snack
BiFi was first introduced by Unilever in the Netherlands in 1972. The savory meaty snack (or mini sausage) made with salami quickly became an instant success. It was consumed as in-between snack or as savory treat consumed with a cold nice beer. Soon the mini sausage also became popular in neighboring countries such as Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and the UK (under the name Peperami). In 2014, BiFi was acquired by US based beef jerky company Jack Link’s.
