Predictor: The World’s First Pregnancy Test for Home Use
Invented In The Netherlands in 1971
Predictor was introduced in 1971 in the Netherlands and was the world's first pregnancy test available for home use. For the first time ever women were able to test themselves in a reliable and simple way to find out whether they were pregnant or not. The first Predictor products resembled a small laboratory. You had to do a few drops of urine with distilled water in a test liquid in a test tube, then shake and put it aside for two hours. After two hours you could then see the results from a mirror that was attached at the bottom of the test tube. Predictor was a real innovation that allows you to test at home whether or not you are pregnant from when your period is nine days late already. The work takes only three minutes and you will know the result within two hours with a reliability of more than 99%.
Nowadays, the technology is so advanced that it does not matter when you do the test. Even the smallest amount of pregnancy hormone hCG is noted. The small laboratory has been replaced by fiberglass and gold particles. The glass fiber serves as a conveying means for the recording pad, the gold particles for the visualization of the result. Technical developments are constantly monitored in order to keep the high quality of the test as you would expect from Predictor. In addition to the Pregnancy Mono Predictor, Predictor also offers a range of other tests such as the Early test, Ovulation Test and other diagnostic products such as thermometers and blood pressure meters.
